Mastering VS Code Multi-Cursors

April 23, 2026

If you are still manually renaming variables or adding quotes to a list of strings, you are working too hard. Use Cmd+D (or Ctrl+D) to select the next occurrence of a word and edit them all simultaneously. If you need to add something to the end of several lines, highlight the block and hit Alt+Shift+I to place a cursor at the end of every selected line. It turns a tedious five-minute task into a five-second win, and once you get the muscle memory down, you will wonder how you ever coded without it.
